Urgent News: Rasomware Attack

On March 15th, 2024, West Idaho Orthopedics and Sports Medicine discovered that our network had fallen victim to a ransomware attack, and they had gained access to our network server. Upon discovering the incident, WIO promptly reached out to our IT department that started an internal investigation and notified law enforcement. The internal investigation recently concluded and determined that the unauthorized third party acquired certain files on WIO’s network, which may have contained patient information. The type of information varied for each individual, but may have included name, date of birth, address, telephone number, email address, health information, and insurance information.

West Idaho Orthopedics is committed to taking additional steps to further reduce the risk of this type of incident occurring in the future, including reviewing its cyber security posture. In general, West Idaho Orthopedics is recommending that individuals regularly monitor credit reports, account statements and insurance benefit statements. If individuals detect any suspicious activity, they should notify the entity with which the account is maintained, and promptly report any fraudulent activity to proper law enforcement authorities, including the police and their state attorney general.

West Idaho Orthopedics values the trust our patients place in it to protect the privacy of their information and apologizes for any inconvenience this incident might cause. Patients seeking additional information may call 208-459-4511 or toll-free (877)431-8053 between 8:00 a.m and

5:00 p.m., MST, Monday through Friday, excluding major U.S. holidays.
